My current research involves monitoring residential runoff of the urban insecticide Fipronil and its metabolic degradation products. Through a collaboration with the department of Entomology, we are investigating the effects of different application methods on the runoff of professional Fipronil formulations. In the future, my goal is to develop passive samplers for in situ monitoring of Fipronil and its metabolites to allow the study of their fate in the environment and to develop models to aid mitigation efforts

Research Focus
My research focuses on the puffing topography and impacts on human health associated with electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). I study these topics by using a combination of informatics and laboratory approaches. More recently, I have begun exploring human biomarkers of harm and exposure in e-cigarette users.

Research Focus
My research interests are focused towards soil and water remediation of inorganic and organic contaminant pollution. Specifically, I will be investigating the suitability and interaction of numerous synthetic and biological surfactants on the bioavailability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, specifically pyrene. After determining the most suitable surfactant application, I intend to investigate the rhizosphere interaction of different plant species with and without inoculation of a pyrene-degrading bacterium, such as Mycobacterium vanbaalenii PYR-1, on the biodegradation of soil contaminated with pyrene. A third study will consist of the best plant-microbe combination and be conducted to assess toxicity levels during the pyrene remediation. The ultimate goal of this proposed research is to enhance remediation of PAH-contaminated soils to reduce human health risks and protect the environment by developing economically-viable methods that can be implemented in a wide range of environments.
